Momma Said Knock You Out. LL Cool J Hospitalizes Burglar.



James Todd Smith, aka LL, was woken by a security alarm about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning and confronted the intruder outside his kitchen. As he confronted the intruder he was rushed by the man, in which LL had to take him down. The 42-year-old rapper turned TV military cop left the would be robber with a broken nose, ribs and jaw in what police sources described to the LA Times as a"knock-down, drag-out" fight and detained him for police. The "Mama Said Knock You Out" rapper, legendary in Hollywood for his grueling workout regimen, emerged from the fight uninjured.






Police identified the suspect as 56-year-old Jonathan Kirby, a homeless man originally from Texas but with an arrest record in Southern California.


Kirby, who is still recovering from his injuries in a local hospital for treatment, has been charged with first-degree burglary and faces a maximum of 38 years to life in prison if convicted, the LA County District Attorney's Office announced Thursday. Prison records obtained by the L.A. Times show Kirby was sentenced to five years for burglary in the 1990s and three years for petty theft in 2005.


“LL Cool J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern,” Smith's spokesman said in a statement obtained by The News. LL Cool J won't be charged in fight with burglar in his Los Angeles home: LAPD
